ROTARY

- In Charlie-Mike we expect you to take this role extremely serious. Understand that you could ruin the entire mission by goofing off, showboating, or trying to go beyond your skill level. -

- When you agree to take this role and upon completion of our evaluation, we expect you to prepare dutifully before an Operation on the Air Frame. -

- What does Dutifully prepare mean?

The expectation is at least an hour before the OP you take time to put in attempting to fly. You know you best so do what you need to do to be prepared so you're nerves don't get the best of you when it's time to fly. Whether it be on the server, on personally done on your own, please take this seriously.

- After completion and passing of our evaluation, we require Pilots to be forthcoming in the AAR process, whether verbal, or in writing after the OP.-

Forthcoming? What we require of you, is to be responsible about your flying and talk to us if there was issues, or concerns while flying in the OP. We'll have you talk about what you did well, and what you could do to improve. If you Crash, we'll require you to either talk about up the incident in the Post OP AAR or give us a detailed description in the Rotary Wing so we can review it, and discuss ways to mitigate in the future.

Why does all this matter above? We need to impress upon the seriousness of this role. This isn't like driving a truck, or being a sniper, or even a team leader. One mis-step and we could quickly ruin the entire operation. we understand mistakes happen but we want to work to mitigate them as best as possible.

Overview Evaluation Process

- We'll use two airframes: - a Medium AirFrame UH-60/ RHS or Vanilla/ and the Little Bird -

- We'll be looking for Calm controlled handling while communicating.

- What will be involved in this evaluation:

   1. Approach to a landing.
   2. Confined Landing.
   3. Orbit of a fixed area.
   4. Nap of the Earth (NOE) route
   5. Terrain Masking Movement

- We're looking for smooth control, ingress that's not "ballooning" and with consistent flight level that leads into a smooth transition to landing.

Dsiqualification & Required Follow on Training

- Things that will lead to disqualification:

    1. Janky, over correcting flying
    2. Damaging and/or Crashing the Helicopter repeatedly
    3. Improper Navigation
    4. Poor Communication (Little to none)

Evaluation

We'll start with the little bird and work into the BlackHawk.
 1. Approach to landing:
   a. As this is the easiest landing, you'll get the LZ midair.
   b. It's optional if you want to draw on the map to help yourself.
   c. You'll get one free "go around".
   d. We're looking for a smooth but continual guidance into the Landing Zone.
 2. Confined Landing:
   a. You'll start this one on the ground, or in a stable platform.
   b. You'll receive the LZ and be given time to review and mark the map for planning purposes.
   c. Again you'll be given a one free "go around".
   d. We want to avoid high altitude to the LZ, we want a smooth transition from low altitude to ingress into the LZ.
   e. We want to avoid prolonged hovering, we want a sustained smooth movement into landing.
 3. Orbit of a Specified Area:
   a. Mid air, you'll be given a location to move to and loiter at.
   b. We'll explain what the intent of the loiter is, whether its troops in contact, loiter to find enemies, or loiter to standby for LZ.
   c. We'll be looking at your thought and creativity of distance, direction, and speed in loitering the area.
   d. At some point you'll be re-tasked and we'll be looking for your thought process and intent.
 4. NOE Route (Nap of the Earth):
   a. You'll be given a route using a series of Grid Coordinates, landed/or stable mid air - Pilots choice.
   b. The intent of NOE is to stay below the radar, and visibility from high locations, along with being at a fast pace.
   c. We want to see you minimally use of hovering to avoid obstacles, we want to see pre-meditated movements to avoid obstacles while keeping a fast pace.
   d. You'll need to remain within the route with minimal missing of a specified grid-point.
 5. Terrain Masking Movement:
   a. Although similar to NOE movement, this will be more deliberate cover to cover movement to avoid Radar locking, and direct fire.
   b. The intent is to mask at lower altitudes and areas below the tree line.
   c. At some point you'll receive fire from a direction, you'll then dive to a lower altitude to a hover and mask using the terrain.
   d. You'll then lift the helicopter up from a point of cover, identify the location of contact and then re-mask. We want to avoid long periods of exposure during this movement.
   e. We're looking for constant communication, limited exposure, and movement to different points of cover to confuse the enemy.
   f. The intent is to remain hovering when in masking to remain mobility and maneuvering.

At Completion we'll repeat all the above, with the UH-60 (Ghosthawk/Blackhawk)

Combat Rotary Wing Evaluation

1. Tactical Takeoff & terrain Masking Navigation

- Avoid radar in AO
- Terrain masking
- NOE
- Avoid overflight of Enemy areas

2. Target Acquisition & CAS Delivery

- Locate and engage designated enemy positions/ armored targets
- Coordinate with ground forces

3. Evade & Survive: Threat Reaction & Egress

- React to simulated MANPADS or AAA threat and conduct emergency egress
- Flares, jinking, diving, using terrain

4. Troop Transport under fire

- While aircraft conducts pickup, Combat wing will provide overwatch and suppressive fire
- no friendly fire incident
- suppress enemy
- Communicate with ground
