Founding of OG Charlie Mike (2017–2019)

Charlie Mike, often abbreviated as CM, traces its origins to July 2017, when five friends — BriCro, MajorGrunt, Skunk, ShavedSavage, and BlizzahdBub — formed a tactical Arma 3 unit focused on realism-based operations modeled after United States Special Forces doctrine. This original formation, later dubbed "OG Charlie Mike", was created out of a shared desire to elevate gameplay with authentic mission design, camaraderie, and structured tactical execution.

From humble beginnings, OG CM quickly grew in size and ambition. By winter 2017, the core team was joined by a dozen new members, and another dozen followed by spring 2018, marking the group’s first wave of growth.

Leadership Structure: "The Five"

Operational and administrative oversight was maintained by a council known internally as “The Five”, composed of the founding members. This leadership group provided strategic direction, conflict resolution, mission content curation, and overall community stewardship.

Operations and Community Activity

By 2018, OG Charlie Mike had expanded to approximately 80 members, with an active core of 15 to 25 players participating regularly. Weekly operations were scheduled every Wednesday at 8:00 PM EST, featuring tactical missions built around squad-level realism and immersive scenarios.

Expansion and Joint Operations (2018–2019)

As the group matured, OG CM began to collaborate with other Arma 3 communities, initiating its first Joint Operation in 2018. This event brought together 40 players in a large-scale combined arms exercise and set the stage for future intergroup engagements.

Charlie Mike cultivated a philosophy of "Casual Professionalism", balancing disciplined, authentic gameplay with a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere.

While missions were primarily infantry-focused, OG CM became especially known for its proficiency in rotary-wing aviation, integrating helicopter support into its tactical framework.

Technical and Creative Growth

During 2019, the group saw several key developments:

Transitioned to a dedicated server box to support larger, more complex operations.
Created original game modes such as:
- Mayor of Badtown – a semi-roleplay mission blending insurgency and political intrigue.
- Silly TVT Missions – light-hearted team-vs-team scenarios with creative and experimental mechanics.
Hosted two additional high-profile Joint Operations:
- A Vietnam Air Cavalry scenario featuring over 50 players.
- A final Joint Op uniting three Arma 3 communities in a full-map battle with 54 participants.

Disbanding of OG Charlie Mike (Mid-2019)

In mid-2019, founding member BriCro convened a final council meeting and announced the decision to disband OG CM. Citing factors such as leadership fatigue, creative divergence, and the natural lifecycle of grassroots communities, the announcement marked the official conclusion of the original Charlie Mike era.

Formation of Charlie Mike Actual (2019–Present)

Following the dissolution of OG CM, members Skunk and ShavedSavage regrouped to establish a successor organization: Charlie Mike Actual. This reformed group retained the spirit and traditions of OG CM while introducing modernizations in leadership, operations, and mission design.

Charlie Mike Actual embraced:

A renewed focus on narrative-driven, immersive missions.
Streamlined leadership roles to ensure sustainable long-term growth.
An updated philosophy rooted in the original motto — humility, fun, and teamwork.

Where Are They Now?

BriCro joined the prestigious tactical community ShackTac, where he remained active until his departure in 2024.
BlizzahdBub retired from the Arma community, reportedly vowing to "never fire a weapon in violence again", and has since faded into digital anonymity.
MajorGrunt continues to play with Charlie Mike Actual but declined a return to leadership.
Skunk and ShavedSavage remain the principal architects of Charlie Mike Actual, guiding the community through its modern chapter.

Membership steadily grew, peaking at over 90 active members, as both veterans of OG CM and new recruits from across the tactical gaming world were drawn to its signature blend of camaraderie, structure, and immersive realism.

With a dedicated server box, custom-built for handling complex scenarios and high player counts, Charlie Mike entered a new era of technical and narrative sophistication. The group’s operations now span continents, eras, and factions — a hallmark of its innovative campaign style that blurs the lines between history, fiction, and simulation.

The Story Campaign Method

At the heart of Charlie Mike’s operational philosophy lies its evolving implementation of the Story Campaign Method, originally conceptualized by the legendary John Arma in 1987. What began as a modular storytelling framework has since been transformed and perfected by the CM community into a living, breathing world of consequences, continuity, and global conflict.

Each campaign:

Tells a self-contained but interlinked story.
Features hand-built scenarios with rich lore and persistent consequences.
Is shaped by player decisions, both in and out of game.
Incorporates real-world and alternate-history factions across all terrain types.

Over the years, Charlie Mike has deployed as:

NATO special operations units in Eastern Europe.

Pirates.
Conventional militaries in near-future theaters.
Criminal syndicates and PMCs in destabilized regions.
Cold War holdouts, WW2 paratrooper teams, green berets in Vietnam and much, much more.

Charlie Mike continues to conduct official operations:

Every Wednesday at 8:00 PM EST — the group’s long-standing flagship event.
On alternating Sundays, offering players opportunities to test experimental missions, run side campaigns, or engage in large-scale Joint Ops.
